Jörg Hammann

German violinist, Jörg Hammann studied with Professor Uwe Martin Haiberg at the Berlin University of the Arts and with Professor M. Ericsson in Oslo, Norway. As a member of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra he collaborated early with Claudio Abbado and Bernard Haitink. In Norway he performed with the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra under Iona Brown and the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra during Mariss Jansons’ tenure. In 1998, he became a member of the London Philharmonic Orchestra and moved to the London Symphony Orchestra in 2002. For nearly 20 years, he played there under chief conductors Kurt Masur, Sir Colin Davis, Valery Gergiev, and Sir Simon Rattle and performed all over the world on tours and at renowned festivals like the BBC Proms, Glyndebourne, Aix en Provence, Salzburg, Edinburgh and Bucharest to name a few.

In London, he was able to expand his diverse artistic activities, including film scores such as The Lord of the Rings, Star Wars and Harry Potter, and projects with jazz greats and composers such as Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Dave Brubeck, and Lalo Schifrin. He also participated in conducting masterclasses with Jorma Panula, Trevor Kirk, and Mikhail Jurowski. In 2017/18 he joined the Frankfurt Opera and Museum Orchestra as principal second violinist where he enjoys opera repertoire to complete his musical journey.
